At Johns Hopkins University, the safety of our students is our top priority.
The goal of the Campus Safety and Security website is to share preventive measures and information to help you reduce your chances of becoming the victim of a crime. We hope that our site helps make your time at Johns Hopkins pleasant and safe, whether you are a student, faculty or staff member, or visitor. Our director of security of Campus Safety and Security, Christina Presberry, has provided an overview of what the Campus Safety and Security team is all about, and how it approaches its daily routines to keep students safe.
Dear JHU community,
It is an honor to serve as director of Campus Safety and Security at Johns Hopkins University, an institution rich in history and unparalleled in reputation. My three-pronged approach to campus safety is this: to provide round-the-clock law enforcement services to the university; to provide crime prevention and safety awareness resources; and to provide ongoing safety training and development for students and employees.
Students, faculty, and visitors alike should know that JHU's campus special police officers are commissioned by the state of Maryland, and they have full police powers on all Johns Hopkins University property in the state. These officers patrol on- and off-campus facilities and university activities on foot, on bicycles, and in conspicuously marked security vehicles. Plainclothes officers and investigators are also on staff. These dedicated officers and support staff are focused on preserving an environment where you can study, live, and work safely.
Our proactive anti-crime, safety awareness, and escort programs are available to members of the undergraduate freshman class, new graduate and international students, residential and student advisers, and all new university employees. We also provide specialized presentations on request. To learn more about training programs, feel free to send us a note.
The Campus Safety and Security team stands ready to serve the needs of the university community. If you need assistance, please contact us. And please don't hesitate to let us know how we are doing.
Christina Presberry, Director of Security
